Based on the majority of what I post, you might have wondered "Does she ever shoot guys?" The answer is YES! I absolutely shoot guys! And I know the follow up question that's been just eating you up... "What about marimbas? Does she shoot marimbas?" Again, YES. I shoot marimbas. I even shoot guys with marimbas.
All joking aside, I was totally stoked when I got the booking request to shoot a musician. I must admit that prior to Jordan showing up with it, I actually had no idea what a marimba was...or how enormous they are. But we found the perfect spot to do this part of his senior session. I wanted a solid colored background to eliminate distractions and out of the shirt options he brought along, I was all about the white to really set him off from the dark grey bricks. We did some posing, but the best part was that for most of the shoot Jordan actually played...and it was amazing. If you've never heard a marimba solo before, they are incredibly soothing and magical sounding. It doesn't sound at all like Jamaican steel drums but for me it created that same calm feeling but with a bit of "something unexpected is just about to happen" thrown in there. I was definitely not the only person impressed and captivated by Jordan's talents that night. People walking by on the sidewalk stopped to listen. We had a driver honk a horn as a "shout out." So yeah. If you want to do a senior portrait session including your musical instrument, I'm all over it.
